East Wind Community began in 1974 as a small farm in the Missouri Ozarks. Since then, we’ve grown from our humble beginnings into one of the largest intentional communities in the U.S — with over 1,000 acres, cozy living spaces, multiple businesses, gardens, and over 50 members to keep it all running.

Eastwind Nut Butters 1981 Grand Opening

In 1980, the growing needs of our membership necessitated a steady source of income, and so East Wind Nut Butters was born — and it quickly became our biggest success! Now, we produce over 200,000 pounds of nut and seed butters each year, with two roasting and milling lines and a refrigerated warehouse. You can find our products in stores across the Midwest and in all sorts of delicious foods nationwide.

East Wind Community is profit-sharing, meaning everyone benefits equally from our businesses. We handle every step of the process — sourcing the nuts, roasting, milling, packaging, and shipping — without bosses, just teamwork. Every jar of nut butter you buy supports our cooperative way of life.
