East Wind Community began in 1974 as a small farm in the Missouri Ozarks. Since then, we’ve grown from our humble beginnings into one of the largest intentional communities in the U.S — with over 1,000 acres, cozy living spaces, multiple businesses, gardens, and over 50 members to keep it all running.
In 1980, the growing needs of our membership necessitated a steady source of income, and so East Wind Nut Butters was born — and it quickly became our biggest success! Now, we produce over 200,000 pounds of nut and seed butters each year, with two roasting and milling lines with a refrigerated warehouse. You can find our products in stores across the Midwest and in all sorts of delicious foods nationwide.
East Wind Community is profit-sharing, meaning everyone benefits equally from our businesses. We handle every step of the process — sourcing the nuts, roasting, milling, packaging, and shipping — without bosses, just teamwork. Every jar of nut butter you buy supports our cooperative way of life.
